I admired and looked up to fellow chapter members who were grant writing veterans, many of whom had their GPC. Little did I know those conversations, and applying for a GPC scholarship, would change the trajectory of my career and my life forever. My fellow chapter members told me about the GPC scholarship and said I should apply.

Our Chapter is holding its annual conference in a couple of months. Scrolling through the GPA’s website I learned about the Grant Professionals Certification (GPC) offered by the Grant Professionals Certification Institute (GPCI). I realized the GPC was an exam that seemed beyond a mere certificate stating I knew about grant writing.

This year’s conference is in Denver, Colorado (and online), October 30th through November 2nd. Professional Development: The pinnacle of my grants career came in 2017 when I became credentialed as a GPC through the Grant Professionals Certification Institute (GPCI). Registration opens June 1st.

In early November 2023, I attended GrantSummit (formerly known as the Grant Professionals Association (GPA) Annual Conference) in Kansas City, Missouri. This multi-day conference is the premier professional development event for grant professionals in the U.S. 3) The grants profession is more diverse than I realized.

In November 2022, Mallory and I presented the Dynamic Grants Manual at the GPA Annual Conference in Louisville, KY. A few have even created text-based documents. But newcomers may find it challenging to organize their process while seeking funding, crafting applications, and meeting deadlines. The manual doesn’t need special graphics.

They are firefighters, teachers, administrative assistants, program directors, accountants, and even elected officials and board members. Be prepared to fail.

When I was about ten years old (this would have been the late 70s), my aunt told me this joke: One day, all the world’s top researchers met to design an experiment to test the existence of God.
