This summer, I’ve been collecting data through a mix of interviews and observations focused on refugee support services in the Czech Republic and Poland. I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to interview a representative from the Organization for Aid to Refugees (OPU) in Prague. From the outset, the organization demonstrated remarkable openness and a willingness to support my project.

I arrived in D.C. Saturday afternoon filled with excitement and nerves. I quickly moved into my dorm, which to my surprise is within seconds of the Supreme Court. While I am currently in D.C., I want to reflect on my time in the district office, where I completed my internship just last Thursday, July 3. Most of my time was spent speaking with my internship supervisor and the caseworkers.

For my topic comparing Italian and American work-life balance, I’ve been speaking with fellow interns who are working in similar sectors to mine as well as others like clinical, business, and hospitality. I approached them by explaining my capstone topic and asking if they’d be open to being interviewed. These conversations gave me a clearer understanding of how work and life blend in Italy, and I found myself relating to many of the points that came up.

chicago.jpg So far, my summer spent at LeMoyne Arts has introduced me to a wonderful spread of individuals. Some artists, some curators, some donors, some administrators, but all people who care deeply for the Tallahassee art community. Some of my favorite conversations so far have been with older, longstanding LeMoyne members, those who either know most of the local artists featured or are artists themselves.

This study abroad experience has been amazing and I am so grateful for the opportunity I am having. I am just beginning the main part of my research through our tours and excursions, along with some information coming from my classes. Most of my research will be conducted in the US though as it requires more reading and analyzing than interviews and observation.

Having been at Church Farm Adreley (CFA) for nearly two months, I have had the opportunity to get to know and speak with the majority of the staff and supervisors. I worked with many of them and also asked questions through regular conversations, during breaks, or at the pub. From these conversations, I learned not only about them but also how the farm has to manage itself in an era where organic farms and farms in general are becoming increasingly difficult to profit from in the United Kingdom.

Today, I had the honor of conducting my first interview with a local from Valencia, Spain. I met with a staff member of Florida State University’s study abroad Valencia program. I emailed her asking if she would be okay quoted for the Nomadic Noles Magazine where I am interviewing Spanish citizens on their opinion of the monarchy. She agreed and set up a time to schedule with me.

By Angel-Amon Wildgoose Six times! Six times at Locust Grove High School, I had to serve detention for the one thing I still struggle with to this day: talking too much. Teachers would move my seat, isolate me from my friends, or put me at the “Silent Table” to eat my sandwich while my teacher scowled at me like a prison guard. All of this, and you could still never shut me up.
